The proposal calls for students to graduate with both a high school diploma and an industry-recognized employment certifications in such fields as green roofing, urban agribusiness, natural resource maintenance, recycling, brown field remediation or hazardous waste cleanup.
An examination of federal records posted on the government website recovery.gov shows that millions of dollars of Recovery Act funding that has been reported as being used to stimulate the Bronx is not actually new money, and other funding attributed to the Bronx is not being used in the borough at all.

Relatively affluent web surfers aren’t the only contributors to Bronx Charter School for the Arts.
Residents, who had suffered in water-damaged apartments and without such basics as heat and hot water, had high expectations for the new management. Two years later, three of the four Hunts Point buildings have been renovated, but some tenants still wait for repairs.
In-depth conversations between residents and designers aimed to create excitement about the South Bronx Greenway. What arose from these conversations, were “amazing political discussions,” that used the design process as a sounding board for larger social issues.
The surprisingly narrow margin has led pundits and politicians to ask: Could Thompson have won? The answer may lie in the attitudes of voters in neighborhoods like Hunts Point and Longwood.
