Free training for performing school auditions

MS 424, the Hunts Point Middle School, will host free audition seminars in November for Bronx students planning to apply to the city’s three performing arts high schools.

Tony Award winner Michele Pawk and Emmy Award winning Actress Alison Bartlett from Sesame Street, will team up with other performers and experienced coaches to help eighth and ninth grade students applying to LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts, Professional Performing Arts High School and Talented Unlimited High School in vocal music or musical theater.

They will offer the students tips for a strong audition and provide each student one-on-one coaching, including instruction in melodic patterns, rhythmic patterns and the improv portion of the auditions.

Other panelists include Linda Lopresti, an experienced audition coach and Bronx public school music teacher, dancer-choreographer Krystal HallGlass and Becky Lillie Woods artistic director of the Riverdale Childrens Theater, which is sponsoring the workshops.

Successful applicants from past years will also be on hand to answer questions about the audition experience.

“Many Bronx families cannot afford to hire an acting or vocal coach,” said Derek Woods, executvie director of the Riverdale Children’s Theater, the event’s sponsor. “I know many kids from across the Bronx will benefit from the help of these talented professionals in preparing for these difficult auditions.”

The workshops will be held on Nov. 7 and 14, from 5-7 p.m. at MS 424, 730 Bryant Avenue. Registration is necessary and slots are limited. To register, visit www.riverdaletheatre.org.
