World-famous model Naomi Campbell, 36, reading to children at The Point.
Supermodel Naomi Campbell made headlines worldwide when she began her court-ordered sentence of community service by cleaning a Sanitation Department garage on the far West side of Manhattan on March 19.
But no one noticed that Campbell also spent some time the next day in the Bronx reading to children at a community center in Hunts Point.
Dressed in a couture jacket trimmed with fur, a formfitting, black pencil skirt, and towering black heels, Campbell arrived during the opening of a photography exhibit at The Point on Garrison Avenue.
She spent a few brief moments viewing the photographs and then was escorted upstairs to a private room, where a select group of children awaited her.
Campbell took time to take pictures with the children and then spent a short time reading to them.
The model pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in January for throwing her cellphone at her maid. In addition to the five days of community service, she was ordered to pay the maid’s medical expenses and attend a two-day anger management seminar.
In Manhattan, paparazzi tracked her every move and outfit, but in the Bronx, she managed to slip in and out of The Point without much media attention.
Those at The Point, though, were excited to see the supermodel. Her visit was not publicized, and most had no idea that she would be arriving.
They expressed concern, though, that just a handful of youngsters got to hear her read the Dr. Seuss story “Oh the Places You’ll Go.”
Many of the people at the center were also disappointed that she would not be spending much time at The Point. Nevertheless, they seemed pleased to have her visit.
