“We celebrate his contributions to improving the health, community life and economic development of the Bronx in myriad influential roles he has held over the years,” said Linda Cox, the executive director of the Alliance, which works to improve the Bronx River and to offer river-based educational programs.

A resident of the Longwood Historic District, Garcia is the senior director of community and government relations at Montefiore Medical Center and executive director of Mosholu Preservation Corporation, a local development corporation founded by the hospital to serve the Norwood and Bedford Park neighborhoods.

He serves on the board of the Bronx YMCA and is Chairman of the Fordham University Liberty Partnership Program.

Also to be honored at the event is city Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe “for his leadership in creating strong public-private partnerships on behalf of New York City parks and for his tireless support of our efforts to revitalize the Bronx River.”
